A wholesome threesome: God Gave Us So Much

God Gave Us So Much is a wonderful compilation of three stories written about a little bear who asks many questions of her Mama and Papa. The art is captivating, the story well written and this book held my kids attention very well. My four year old wanted me to keep reading all the way to the end of the book, but my middle child (who just turned three) lost interest right in the middle of the last story. However, no matter what age your child is, I think you could easily read one story, and continue with a different story later - especially given that this collection of stories comes with a built in bookmark (a definite plus in my opinion).
The first story, God Gave Us The World, speaks about how God is creative and made many types of bears who live in different places around the world and how despite our difference, we're all created special. One of my favorite lines is, “God created our world and everything in it, because it's in his nature to create. Understanding that is part of why he put us here...to serve and worship him, our amazing God, who gave us this amazing world.” This first story also gives parents the opportunity to discuss stewardship of the earth, and what it means to take care of it.
The next story God Gave Us Love, speaks about how we should be showing God's love to others. It addresses what it means to love even when we don't feel like it, and asks questions our children ask, such as “could we ever do something to make God not love us?” I think this story was my favorite of the bunch.
The last story is God Gave Us Heaven, which is a perfect story to help your child understand death. Of the three stories, this one seemed to have the most questions posed by the little bear. This book would be especially helpful if someone has experienced a death in the family. It's a great way to address the questions your kids may have, but may not be able to articulate. I appreciated how the author very clearly shared the good news about Jesus in this story.
All in all, I think this book is one you would want to get for your children. I will definitely recommend this book to friends.

*I received this book for free from WaterBrook Multnomah Publishing Group for this review.
